Affiliate disclosure

Short version: some outbound links on this site can be affiliate links, which pay cityparity a commission when you sign up with the partner. Your price is the same either way, the links are marked, placement is never sold, and no partner ever sees data about you as an individual.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is an ordinary outbound link with a referral tag attached. If you click it and then sign up or buy on the partner's site, the partner can tell the visit came from cityparity and pays us a commission out of its own marketing budget. The price you pay is identical with or without the tag.

One technical note worth knowing: after you click, the partner's site typically sets its own cookies on its own domain to remember the referral, usually for somewhere between 30 and 365 days depending on the program. That happens on their site, under their privacy policy. Nothing extra runs here, and this site remains cookieless as described on the privacy page.

Placement is never sold

Affiliate links live in one place: the "Actually looking to move?" checklist that appears under a calculator result. Its rows follow the order of a relocation (permit, offer, moving quotes, money transfer, health insurance, tax), and a row renders only when it applies to the two cities you compared. The money-transfer row appears when the cities use different currencies; the permit row drops off inside free-movement zones like the EU.

A partner cannot buy a slot, a higher position, or a mention in the comparison itself. The calculator's math comes from cited public sources and is finished before the checklist renders.

The recommendations came first

Every service in the checklist was listed and linked before any affiliate relationship existed. The block shipped in August 2026 with plain untagged links to the companies we then applied to, because they were already our answer to "what would we tell a friend to do next". When a program approves us, the same link gains a referral tag and the marking described below. When a program rejects us, the recommendation stays as a plain link. Either way, the list itself does not change.

Which categories can carry affiliate links

Three categories can carry affiliate links today: moving quotes, money transfer, and international health insurance. We name categories here because partner programs open and close; the company behind any row is always visible on the row itself. If this list of categories grows, this page changes first.

Two markers tell you a link is an affiliate link. The link carries a rel="sponsored" attribute in the page markup, and a disclosure line appears with the checklist whenever at least one of its rows is an affiliate link. When no affiliate link is live, there is no line, because there is nothing to disclose.

What we count when you click

Clicks on checklist rows are counted by the same anonymous, cookieless counter described on the privacy page. A click records the category and the city pair being compared: for example, that a session comparing Berlin and London clicked the moving row. It records no name, no email, no salary, no IP address, and no identifier that survives closing the tab. These counts tell us which steps people find useful on which routes. Visiting any page with ?rum=off in the URL once excludes your browser from all of it.

What partners can see

Partners only ever receive aggregate numbers. A partner might learn that a certain number of sessions comparing two specific cities clicked its category in a month. We share a figure only when at least 20 sessions sit behind it, so no number can point back at one person. No partner receives an email address, a salary, a click trail, or anything else about you individually, and there is nothing to hand over: the counter above holds no such records in the first place.
